Fairus, as stated, you already said that singaporeans loses their job as they are "not considered to be competitively skilled" compared to the foreigners. Therefor we should not blame the foreigners for causing retrenchment, but should be blaming ourselves for not working hard enough to be competitive.

Another thing i wanted to point out would be your defination of foreigners. Are you refering to white collar workers, blue collar workers or both? You said that foreigners are more "academically qualified" then singaporeans, However if you were to look at the point of view of blue collar workers, i dont think they are more "academically qualified" than us; look at the workers are the shipyard and cleaners. They got the job as they were determine to work on no matter of bad they were treated. They endured, and not because they were more academically qualified.

I don't think foreign talents are a threat to Singaporeans. They are only a threat to those who can't be bothered to constantly upgrade themself for their work requirement. When they find that they have been replaced by foreigners who are better qualfied, then they complain that foreigers are snatching their 'rice bowl'.
But the government's policy is that opening up to foreign talents so that we can have their expertise in many things. Like India Indians are very good in their Electronics Sector.
And that foreign talents would create a competitive environment for singapore employees so that they will constantly upgrade themself as necessary.
Therefore I don't feel that foreign talents are a talent to Singaporeans.

The problem is, the government is still increasing the number of foreign workers to work in Singapore. It is up to a point where the number of foreigners are going to be equalise with the number of Singaporeans(no offence to any foreigners :D )If you guys haven't realised it yet... Singapore isn't dat big you know ;P
Too much foreign talent is bad however too little foreign is also bad.

No. This is an absurd of a typical Singaporean thinking who are stuck at the lower end. People who are lazy, who do not improve themselves and who are self-denial, all blame the government for bringing in foreign talent. It is not because they are unable to find jobs that they result to committing crimes for survival. Take a look around. There are many homes offering places to stay, charities, aids and schemes. They can still find low paying jobs.
Singapore is constantly improving, excelling and striving forward. How can we limit our growth to only within us. We must open our doors to the world and expand.
Foreign talent has help shoot Singapore to a world class level. With their expertise, Singaporeans have learned a lot and much more to learn.
I believe no one Singaporean wants to work as construction workers or rubbish collectors. These sectors are often flooded with foreigners. So how can we say foreigners “snatch” our jobs? It is we ourselves that give these jobs away to them. Without them, who’s going to do these jobs Singaporeans deemed “lower class”?
I think that by limiting foreigners would only be impeding our progress.

I think that foreign talents ARE a threat to singaporeans. Many people have said that it is because of singaporeans not constantly upgrading themselves that causes them to be retrenched, but what i think is that we have to accept the fact about why singapore sees the need to attract foreign talent to work here.

The main reason is because of the way foreigners(I cannot explain about each and every nationality, but the key "imports" are usually from USA and China.) are brought up and educated. Although it is known that when you have an international competition of exams and tests of different subjects, singaporeans are usually at the top few, but when you stop and look at the more successful individuals of today, the absence of singaporeans at the top level may cause people to question why academically-ready singaporeans are not a threat to other nationalities when it comes to achieving "big things".

My conclusion is that singaporeans should accept the fact that foreign talents are a threat to their jobs/future, but also use that mindset as a motivation to be able to surpass them not only academically, but economically as well.
