No. Corporal punishment should not be legalized in schools. Instead, schools should have the option of choosing whether or not to carry out corporal punishments. There are parents who believe that scolding works, but there are also parents who believe that canning works. As no one human being is alike, I think there should be varying punishment for varying students. Like education, different students have different learning rates, therefore should punishment. Some people will become hardened to commit more after punishments. As the saying goes “knives that are iced hardened tend to maintain its sharpness for a longer period of time”. For some, counselling is more than enough to make them realise their mistake, some need rehabilitation, and some need corporal punishments to make them not want to do it again. Also crimes are committed at different levels. There are also crimes committed around bravado. There are crimes committed around stupidity, there are crimes committed around desperateness, there are crimes committed around intentions, and there are also crimes committed around anger. Therefore punishments should be carried out around individuals – what works best for him. At the end of the day, the criminal must be reformed and returned to society as a better adjusted individual.
